Where TDCJ Releases Go

Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities hold people serving state sentences. The research did not identify a TDCJ prison physically located in Calhoun County. A Calhoun defendant normally reaches TDCJ only after county custody ends through a documented transfer. From TDCJ, a person may later leave prison on parole, mandatory supervision, or direct discharge. Parole and mandatory supervision place the person outside prison while the sentence remains under state authority. A discharge means the sentence and any associated incarceration or supervision have ended.

That sequence matters when reading the Calhoun County released record. A county record can correctly show that the person left the Adult Detention Center, yet the same event may begin state imprisonment. Preserve any receiving-agency or transfer wording. Do not translate it into a street release. Once TDCJ accepts custody, state records become the proper source for later prison release, supervision, and discharge.

Confirm a TDCJ Release

The public TDCJ Inmate Search covers people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility. Search by TDCJ number or SID when possible. The form also permits name and identity fields, but similar names can collide. A current match can show the facility, conviction and sentence information, parole eligibility, and a projected release date. Those are current status or forecast fields. They are not proof that a release occurred.

1. Check the Calhoun County booking record for transfer language and record the receiving agency.
2. Search TDCJ with a TDCJ number or SID; otherwise use the exact last name and first name and compare the conviction county and sentence.
3. Read projected, eligibility, and scheduled fields according to their labels. Do not treat any of them as an actual departure.
4. After the expected date, check TDCJ IVSS, the Parole Division release-status route, or request the release or discharge record.
5. Confirm whether the result means parole, mandatory supervision, direct discharge, or another transfer.

The statewide public search is updated on working days, is at least 24 hours old, and excludes people no longer currently incarcerated. Disappearance is therefore not affirmative release evidence. A missing result calls for a second channel, not a conclusion.

Calhoun TDCJ IVSS Checks

The separate TDCJ IVSS covers people in state custody and people on parole or mandatory supervision. It accepts a name, SID, or current TDCJ number, and its help allows an asterisk for partial matching. The View Details route provides more information and a subscription option. Notices may cover parole review, release to parole or mandatory supervision, direct sentence discharge, and warrant action.

IVSS is more useful than the incarceration-only search for a person who has already left prison under state supervision. It remains an information and notification service, not a certified discharge document. Match stable identifiers, note the displayed status, and request an official state custody history when the precise legal end of the sentence matters.

Note: County IVSS-Counties and state TDCJ IVSS are separate systems for different custodians and release events.

For general locator information, the official telephone route lists 936-295-6371 or 800-535-0283 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Before a Board vote, the parole-review status line is 844-512-0461. After a favorable vote, the Parole Division release-status line is 512-406-5202.

A limited no-charge route is available at pia@tdcj.texas.gov. Put the person’s name in the subject. Include the seven-digit TDCJ number, or an exact birth date or approximate age and conviction county, then name the fields sought. TDCJ says this route can provide the TDCJ number, location, offense information, prior incarceration history, and projected release date. Ask through the full public-information process for a historical release, parole, mandatory-release, discharge, supervision, or warrant record.

Read TDCJ Release Dates Carefully

A parole eligibility date is the earliest point at which a case may be considered under the governing law. It is not an approval. A projected release date is a calculation based on sentence information, time credits, mandatory-supervision rules, and the possibility of parole. A scheduled date appears later, after favorable processing and records review, but TDCJ warns that it can still change without notice.

Texas does not have a blanket rule that every state prisoner serves 85 percent. Offense type, offense date, sentence structure, prior history, good-conduct rules, and statutory exclusions control. An individualized calculation belongs with TDCJ Classification and Records, not an informal online formula.

Why a TDCJ Date Moves

Good-conduct time may be earned, forfeited, restored, or recalculated under Texas rules. TDCJ can also receive corrected sentence credit, a new judgment, a detainer, or a consecutive sentence. A Board panel may deny parole, approve with conditions, or require a program. Residence-plan approval, disciplinary action, registration criteria, records audits, and special conditions can affect processing after a favorable vote.

TDCJ describes a typical records audit after it receives a release certificate, while stressing that each case differs. The useful verification chain is the Board result, then a scheduled date and location, then release-processing confirmation, followed by IVSS, parole-office status, or a discharge record. Calhoun Parole Office Routing

TDCJ’s county cross-reference assigns Calhoun County to the Victoria District Parole Office in Region IV. The directory lists 100 North John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria, Texas 77901, phone 361-578-6022, and fax 361-578-6402. This is a geographic routing fact, not proof that every person tied to Calhoun reports there. The approved residence, specialized caseload, transfer, or interstate arrangement may produce another assigned office.

A parole-office assignment confirms supervision routing, not the original jail booking and not final discharge. Use Calhoun County’s released detail for the earlier county episode. Use TDCJ for the later state episode. Keeping both records in date order prevents a transfer from being mistaken for freedom.

When ICE Follows TDCJ Release

A state release can be followed by another custodian taking control. An immigration detainer, federal warrant, or another jurisdiction’s hold can prevent a scheduled prison departure from becoming a community release. If ICE assumes custody, the TDCJ event and the immigration event have different authorities and dates. Search the receiving system rather than describing one blended release.

ICE’s locator may include some people released from immigration custody during a limited recent period, but omissions and delay are possible. No result there does not change the meaning of a TDCJ transfer record. Ask each custodian for its own movement or release documentation.
